ABOUT JOLT

One question a day.
Twenty seconds to answer.

Real, raw, safe conversation between strangers who just want to talk.

What is Jolt?

Jolt is an anonymous social network built around a single idea: there is exactly one question and one conversation per day. Everyone on the site sees the same question. Everyone reads the same feed. When you answer, you're part of a shared moment that started that morning and ends at midnight.

No login. No profiles. No followers. No algorithm. No edits, no deletes, no paste. Just a question, twenty seconds, and the honest things strangers say when the pressure to perform is gone.

You can give a quick ▲ / ▼ to the question or any response — a tiny signal of what landed. But votes never reorder anything: the feed stays strictly chronological, for everyone, always.

How it works

  1. 01
One question. Every 24 hours a new conversation begins with a fresh question.
  2. 02
Start typing. The moment you place your first keystroke, a 20‑second timer appears and begins counting down. No buttons, no countdown to click — your answer starts when you do.
  3. 03
20 seconds of honesty. The ticking timer pushes you past overthinking. You write what you actually feel, not what you'd polish.
  4. 04
Submit instantly. Hit Submit (or Enter) and your words post immediately — no page reload, no waiting. The composer resets and the feed updates in place, with your new response right at the top.
  5. 05
Watch the conversation unfold. The feed polls for new responses every second. As others answer, new posts appear at the top — no reload, no refresh needed. One chronological stream, newest first.
  6. 06
Come back tomorrow. The old conversation closes and a new one begins.

If time runs out, your words aren't lost — the text box locks, but you can still Submit What You Have, or hit Start Over for a fresh 20 seconds with a clean slate. The timer is encouragement, not a gate.

Once your response is posted, it's permanent. No editing, no deleting. That constraint is the whole point: it keeps the conversation real.

Why anonymous?

Anonymity is what makes the honesty possible. There's no reputation to protect, no audience to impress, no history to manage. You arrive with a playful nickname and you leave with your words — nothing else. We never ask for your email, name, phone number, or location, and we don't store your IP address.

You can read past conversations in the archive whenever you like, and see every word anyone has ever said on Jolt.

The point: real talk

Most of the internet rewards performance — the best photo, the cleverest take, the most-liked status update. Jolt does the opposite. It rewards presence. You have twenty seconds, so you say the first honest thing that's actually yours. The result is a feed that feels unpolished, a little raw, and refreshingly true.

That rawness is the point. It's how strangers find out they have more in common than their feeds suggested — one small honest answer at a time.

Why people use it

  • Connection without pressure. Talk with people on real topics, without building a persona.
  • Safe by design. Broadly safe questions, no personal information, no harassment tools.
  • Actually readable. One chronological feed. No noise, no "For You", no engagement bait.
  • Low commitment. Twenty seconds a day. That's it.
  • Your voice, unfiltered. No editing means you stop second-guessing yourself.

What Jolt is not

  • Not Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, or Discord. No threads, no feeds you can lose.
  • No follower counts, karma, or reputation scores.
  • No algorithm deciding what you see. Votes give quick ▲/▼ feedback but never rank the feed.
  • No editing, deleting, or pasting.
  • No accounts, no passwords, no personal data.

Safety & privacy

  • Anonymous identities are random IDs in an HttpOnly cookie — no login, no personal data, no IP address stored.
  • Responses are immutable; there are no edit or delete endpoints.
  • Questions are filtered for safety, and user content is treated as untrusted data everywhere.
  • Every state-changing request is CSRF-protected and rate-limited.

FAQ

Do I need an account?
No. You get a random nickname and an anonymous identity automatically — no signup, no password, no email.
How does the timer work?
No start button — the 20-second timer appears the moment you begin typing. If it runs out, your text locks but isn't lost. Submit what you have or Start Over for a fresh attempt.
Can I answer more than once?
One response per question. Want to try again? Hit Start Over before submitting to clear your answer and get a fresh 20 seconds.
How do I see new responses?
The feed updates automatically every second — no refresh needed. New posts appear at the top as people answer.
Can I edit or delete my response?
No. Once posted, it's permanent. No edits, no deletes, no takesies-backsies. That's the point.
What happens to old conversations?
Every past conversation is archived and searchable forever.
Can I paste text in?
No. Jolt blocks pasting — every word has to be typed. It keeps responses spontaneous.
